Hrothgar’s Hoard Dragon Slayer Wand Review

Hrothgar's Hoard Dragon Slayer Wand Review- Harry Potter Wand

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is almost quite literally in my backyard.  Because of this, I couldn’t help but start a small Harry Potter wand collection. Each one has its own special feature that belongs to the three main characters in the series (Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s).

However, with Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindlewald  coming out on November 16th, I really wanted to create my own Harry Potter character: a cosplay,  a custom wand, a backstory– the works.

And so, my first step into creating this unique character starts with the wand. Hrothgar’s Hoard was kind enough to send me one of their custom-made Dragon Slayer wands. They have a Kick Starter launching TODAY, that will tell you everything you need to know about getting your own custom wand. This is a really cool opportunity since there isn’t a way to create your very own wand  at the WWoHP.  At least not one with this many custom-made attributes to choose from:

The Phantasmal Force Wand

I was given the Phantasmal Force Wand, and I absolutely adore it. I love the fact that I can bring this to the WWoHP knowing that I will have a rare wand unlike any others there. These wands are a special commodity that give you the freedom to create your own character. They say “the wand chooses the wizard” but in this case, you get to customize a wand that is special to you from top to bottom.  Let’s take a closer look at its features:

It comes in a handmade wooden box

I was stunned to open up my package to see this gorgeous wooden box. Its irregularities prove that it is a handmade compartment, which just goes to show the amount of work that goes into making Hrothgar Hoard’s Dragon Slayer wands. By the way, the name indicates that these wands aren’t just for Harry Potter fans. I like the fact that I can use this wand to turn any of my favorite characters across any fandom into a witch or wizard!

It has a secret compartment

This is something you won’t find anywhere in the WWoHP. The secret compartment is located in the handle of the wand. The very bottom unscrews revealing a space big enough to hide a special item or two. The wand came with a set of dice in this secret compartment, though I can’t think of anything I would use them for. Instead, I decided to see if it would be plausible to keep money in this hidden feature.

Fun Fact: You can.

The colors are incredible

My Phantimal Wand is made of violet and pink acrylic. The blend of purple and pink makes the wand appear as if it is really cooking up some magic. When I have my wand out in the light, the colors really vibrate and it makes the wand look truly magical. Even in lower lighting, the colors really pop. They have so many different options as well, and I’m kind of sad I don’t have more! The Jungle Moss Acid Arrow and The Abyss Invisibility look especially wicked.

Hand-picked / customize-able features

If you pledge on Kickstarter at the Apprentice level or above, you get to hand-pick the features of your wand. The handles come in either maple, zebrawood, cheery, oak, walnut, purpleheart, bloodwood, or wenge woods. The shafts of the wand come in either wood or acrylic materials. You can choose any of the aforementioned woods for the top of your wand or any of these acrylic materials:

What is really special about these wands is the fact that there is a story behind the materials used that help create  backstory for your wand. For example, my Phantasmal Force Wand is made with the Violet and Pink  acrylic. This signifies that this wand has 7 Charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 of its Charges to cast the Phantasmal Force spell from it.

“The wand regains 1d6 + 1 expended Charges daily at dawn. If you expend the wand’s last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the wand crumbles into ashes and is destroyed .”

I honestly encourage anyone to invest in these wands. It’s a rare opportunity to be able to create your very own wand, and I’m honored to have been able to be apart of Hrothgar’s Hoard’s Dragon Slayer kickoff! If you want your own wand, take a look through their Kickstarter to learn all about the process of getting a wand unlike any other.
