The idea for Cosplay & Coffee came to me shortly after attending my first ever MegaCon.

As I bounced around the convention center meeting fellow cosplayers, looking at art and costumes, and lining up to meet my favorite actors, I realized that I had a lot to learn about the Comic Con world. By some miracle, I had managed to whip together a not-too-shabby cosplay, but the amount of people who clearly took the time and dedication to put together their own was simply extraordinary. It’s something I felt needed to be recognized.

As a newbie to the cosplay world, I wanted a place where I could really feel connected to my fellow cosplayers. To be sure, there are hundreds of websites out there about cosplays. Pinterest is my go-to channel for some quick ideas, but by far the place where I draw the most inspiration is from the people like me who want to dress up as Hermione, Black Widow, or a gender-bent version of Thor. And more than that, I want to get to know these people.

At the convention, my sister was thrilled to see some of her favorite cosplayers, and I had the chance to meet a few well-known cosplay “idols” who were nothing short of amazing. But like all good things Mega Con came to an end, and I left thinking of a million more ideas for my next convention. If only I could get some advice from the best of the best.
